Original Sims is an ongoing exploration of simulation and the nature of reality. Combining pencil drawings of actual physical surfaces with non-existing surfaces generated by an AI image generator creates a juxtaposition that challenges perception and understanding of the world. The focus is on surfaces as the main image type. Surfaces are the interface between ourselves and the physical reality we inhabit. They are the first point of contact for our senses.

The use of pencil on paper as the medium for this project holds significance, as it serves as a counterpoint to the fast-paced and automated nature of AI image generation. By taking a slower, more deliberate approach to using AI and combining it with a human’s own artistic skills, Original Sims aims to reclaim the joy of research and discovery.

The combination of "real" and "unreal" images accentuates the elusive and uncertain nature of comprehension and cognition. It challenges the viewer to critically examine their own perceptions and beliefs, inviting self-reflection on what they consider to be absolute truths.
